This morning I went down the hill on the cable car, which is really more of a funicular, hoping to find a walk-in clinic so I could get a prescription refilled before going off to America where it’ll be significantly more difficult. I arrived at 11 and the receptionist said that they’d have drop-in times from 1 so I should come back then and might have a wait of 20 minutes but not much more than that. So I went off to Te Papa and looked around a couple of rooms. It was very crowded as a couple of cruise ships docked in Wellington yesterday, but still enjoyable, and while one of the Maori galleries was crowded, the Pacific one was fascinating and also nearly empty. The cruise ship passengers lived up to their stereotype by mostly being older Middle Americans who thought that the Maori carvings looked frightening and were primarily interested in the Gallipoli exhibit anyway. I then rushed back to the clinic where I was told that actually they weren’t doing drop-ins at all today, and the next available appointment was on 11 March or I could come at 8 in the morning and wait for the drop ins to open at ’10-ish’. Very disappointing. I’m not sure I can take out from another working day. So I went and had some nasi lemak and teh tarik at a Malaysian restaurant – not the best, but just fine and nice to have something with a bit of mirch masala.
